The ‘taspo’ initiative is implemented by the entire tobacco industry in order to prevent underage smoking. ‘taspo’ is an age verification IC card only issued upon strictly confirming that the holder is an adult, with the aim of preventing underaged consumers from purchasing cigarettes from vending machines. ‘taspo’ cards were introduced nationwide in July 2008.
